The kids love it! I love it! It is probably the only textbook they have really enjoyed and read. Test scores increased dramatically when we changed to this text. Yearly, 100 of our HS students use Rod's bookthe critical backbone of their aviation careers.
Stacie Benson Linn,
CFI and Teacher, Shawnee High School, Louisville, KY
I thoroughly enjoy Rod’s informative illustrations and humorous sidebars. But, the real treasure is the text. Pay attention FAA, this is the way to write a teaching manual. I extol the virtues of this book to all CFIs and students.
Henry G. Smith,
FAA Designated Examiner,
33 Year Gold Seal Flight Instructor
I know you hear it all the time, but it is the best book ever for pilots and pilots to be.
Paul Lamb,
CFII, Smyrna, TN
Fabulous! absolutely an educational masterpiece. It follows the natural training order that an experienced instructor would use and ensures the student a complete course of training. There is nothing like it anywhere in the United States. No one has ever done anything like this before.
E. Allan Englehardt,
United Airline Captain, National Flight Instructor of the Year, Designated Examiner

Since 1973, Rod Machado has been teaching and speaking to aviation audiences in all 50 States, Canada and Europe. In his teaching and writing he simplifies the complex and makes bland topics interesting. Rod educates with humor and students and pilots love it. Besides a degree in Aviation Science, Rod holds degrees in Psychology from California State University. He started flying at the age of 16 and has earned an Airline Transport Pilot license and all fixed wing Flight Instructor ratings. His 8,000 hours of flying were earned the hard way, one flight instructor hour at a time. For six years, Rod wrote and co-anchored ABC's Wide World of Flying. He is AOPA’s National Flight Instructor Spokesman and a National Accident Prevention Counselor appointed by the FAA in Washington D. C. Rod wrote the flight lesson tutorials and is the flight instructor voice for Microsoft’s Flight Simulator software. He is an instructor on Cessna’s Computer-Based Private Pilot CD and is a columnist for AOPA PILOTand FLIGHT TRAININGmagazines. Rod Machado’s Private Pilot Course has become the study method of choice at many universities and flight schools worldwide, and for home study.
