Here’s the hardware I recommend for Flight Sim 2004:

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004:
FighterStick USB w/IL2:
Flight Sim Yoke USB w/IL2:
Pro Pedal USB w/IL2:

You can find these items at your local computer supply store, pilot supply store, internet pilot supply store or by doing an internet search on Google (www.google.com). It's absolutely not necessary to have rudder pedals to learn the essentials of flying when using Flight Simulator 2004. That doesn't mean that rudder usage isn't important because it IS! Your instructor will work with you on learning rudder and aileron coordination in the airplane. This is something that's is very difficult to learn in a desktop simulator. So save this expense and just buy the joystick and as big a monitor as you can afford.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X requirements are a bit different than the FS2004.
