There’s an old saying that goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” This certainly applies to pilots, who must study constantly to keep pace with the ever-changing technology and regulations that make aviation go. So if you’re feeling bogged down and humorless after studying the FARs or debating pitch vs. power, then splurge. Get a copy of Aviation Humor. This one-hour video will not teach you how to talk to ATC, land or disconnect a Hobbs meter. That’s not its purpose. Its goal is to make you laugh. And it will—a lot!
It’s Rod Machado at his best. A noted aviation educator, author and flight instructor, Rod has obviously made it through the lean times as a stand-up comic. And his topic is, naturally, airplanes and the people who fly them.
His humor is effective and funny because it strikes at the truth pilots seldom admit, such as the pride a new pilot feels when he uses his certificate as identification when cashing a check, and the clerk asks, “What is that?”
Many of his stories are outrageous such as the one about the C-5 cargo plane that was going to “eat” the Cessna 150 at Long Beach Airport. Others are educational. Filmed live, Rod trained the over 2,000 in the audience to be flight instructors. “Say after me: More right rudder. Let go. I’ve got it!”
If you’re in need of a good laugh, get this video. You won’t regret it (unless your family revolts against its constant position in the VCR).
