It’s best to train with only one highly regarded, seasoned instructor for your flight lessons. This ensures continuity in training, no gaps in knowledge and the benefit of learning from a skilled instructor with in-depth experience. The same is true with ground training. One highly experienced author ensures a deeper understanding of important aviation knowledge.
Rod’s readers continually benefit from his years of experience. Instructing since 1973, Rod personally writes, illustrates and updates all his books, too. Each one of his illustrations is there to teach, not just decorate. The text also explains why things work the way they do. This improves understanding and helps the reader remember. The result is higher test scores and a safer, more competent, and more confident pilot.

I have literally grown up as a pilot with Rod Machado as an instructor. From the first "demo flight" through my solo and private pilot checkride, through my first acro competition and my first flights working on my instrument and commercial certification, Rod’s words of encouragement and caution have sounded loud and clear. From Rod Machado’s Private Pilot's Handbook through Rod’s instrument books and tapes, through Rod’s humorous tapes, I have been an avid fan. I have heard the echoes of his advice and counsel constantly. I have flown Pipers and Cessnas, Pitts and Navions, yet always, Rod’s words have come to me in the cockpit - whether a humorous aside or a serious bit of information. Rod’s words, whether written or on tape, have been with me from the beginning, and I hope that someday, when I finally get the privilege of working with a student as a CFI, I can impart some of that knowledge and style to my charge.

About twenty-three years ago I attended Rod’s Private Pilot ground school in So. Cal. As time progressed, and I found ways to continue flying, I found myself looking back to what I had learned in Rod’s classroom. Much to his credit I still use that knowledge today as a DC9 captain flying for an airlines. That knowledge will continue to be of use of the most important kindmy 17-year-old daughter has just begun classes at University. She's using Rod Machado’s Private Pilot Handbook in class. I couldn't resist and bought one too, just to see how much I had forgotten. Thanks Rod, for "sending me on my way" to not just a job or a career, but a life-long passion!!! I'm sure my daughter will feel the same way.
