As a current CFI since 1962, and later an air-carrier pilot, I have known many CFI's and professional aviation instructors in the past 40 years. Rod is definitely one of the easiest and most fun to learn from, and without a doubt enjoys his profession which shows in his success. I taught my son to fly nearly 10 years ago, and he has every book Rod has published at my recommendations. I first met Rod in the early '70's. He was then, and is to this day a true professional aviation instructor.

Rod’s Handbook is such a knowledgeable book and humorous as well! I am just starting my pilot training at Long Beach and have enjoyed it so much. I wish I had started to fly a lot sooner!

A retired engineer contacted me regarding taking flying lessons. Jack informed me that he had earned his private pilot's license in 1969, accumulated about 100 hours before having to give up flying due to the demands of 5 children, moving for new jobs, etc. He contacted me after being away from flying for over 30 years. Considering his low time and 30 year absence I felt that we would have to start from scratch with his training. I suggested that he purchase Rod Machado's Private Pilot Handbook to help him refresh his knowledge of all the things that have changed since 1969. In the back of my mind I was concerned that perhaps a talented engineer wouldn't like the simple explanations, cartoons, and illustrations depicted in Rod's book. But to my delight Jack absolutely loved the book. "I can't put it down", said Jack with great excitement. "Thanks so much for recommending this book!" Jack went on to explain that his wife Judy [a non-pilot] also likes the book and the colorful humor. "In fact we're fighting over who gets to read the book, so I purchased her own book as well as three more to give to my 3 oldest children as Christmas presents." I can't tell you how something as simple as a book has given me so much enthusiasm and energy for my flight instructing! When I saw Rod's book for the first time I was blown out of the water! What a great and entertaining, training and reference manual.

Thanks for Rod’s tapes, books, and videos. I really enjoyed studying from Rod’s Private Pilot Handbook!
